November 2018 - Mexico

Go straight to the pictures (Warning: a lot of fish pictures)

Additional food pics and more photos may also be seen on my Tumblr.

I did another November diving trip to Cabo Pulmo and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  I went with travel buddies kumi, Claire and Midori.  We've gone so often, we have this down to routine:
  • Meet at the Corona Sports Bar outside terminal 2
  • Take shuttle to Soriana to do some shopping
  • Leave Soriana early enough so we can get to Cabo Pulmo before sundown
We stayed at Baja Bungalows again.

Cabo Pulmo hasn't changed much.  There are a few new buildings here and there.  A few of the restaurants have made some improvements/modifications.  But for the most part, it doesn't look any different from the pictures I took in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

Most of my pictures are from diving.  We dove with Pilu of Cabo Pulmo Diving again.  Our typical daily schedule was wake up, dive, dive, lunch, siesta, dinner, sleep. We did host a potluck one night.  Also, Claire did deviate from the norm by doing a couple hikes.  Though, for the most part, our schedule was relaxing and routine.

We went diving a lot.  We did 2 tank dives a day for 7 days.  One day we did 3 dives.  The dives were very good.  There were a lot of sharks.  All-in-all, not really much to complain about.

After
Cabo Pulmo, we went to the airport to drop off Midori.  Claire, kumi and I continued on to Cabo San Lucas.  We stayed at Tesoro in Cabo San Lucas again.  We ate at some of our favorite restaurants:  Solomon's Landing, Daikoku, and Los Barriles.  Paco, the chef from Los Barriles, came out to say hi to us.  He remembered us from last year.

We went diving again with
Cabo Deep Blue.  Owned by Oscar and Sachiko.

I only went diving 1 day.  Claire and kumi went 2.  On the second day, I "took one for the team" and attended a Vacation Club briefing.  By doing so we got a 15% discount on resort rooms and services, 15% discount on certain restaurants in town, and a $20 booze cruise for the three of us.

Things of note about this trip:

  • The road to Cabo Pulmo hasn’t improved much.  Small cars can make it (in good weather) but I still recommend at least an all wheel drive vehicle.
  • A few more places are accepting credit cards in Cabo Pulmo, but still bring cash.  Dollars are accepted, but pesos are better.  There aren't any ATMs.
  • Internet access is not good.  Have a good international mobile data plan.
