November 2017 - Mexico

Go straight to the pictures

I went back to Cabo Pulmo, Mexico again for another dive trip.  I met up with kumi and her friend Claire at San Jose Del Cabo airport.  There was supposed to be another person, but he didn't make it.  Once we were all together, we made our usual stop at Soriano's, then we were off to Cabo Pulmo.

The road to Cabo Pulmo is slowly improving.  I'm guessing eventually it will be a paved road all the way there.  But at the rate they're going, that won't be anytime soon
...

This time we were staying at Baja Bungalows.  They're nice.  Once we were settled in, we decided where to eat.  The original decision was Caballeros, but they were full so we ended up going to Tito's Restaurant.

Not much has changed since my last visit to Cabo Pulmo.  For that reason, I didn't take too many pictures of the place.  There's a new visitor center.  Nancy's Restaurant closed, but it's open occasionally for margarita night.  There's a new restaurant and dive center called Pepe's which serves pizza and sushi.

The rest of our stay at Cabo Pulmo can be summed up easily:  Eat, dive, lunch at La Palapa, sleep, dinner, sleep, repeat.  We dove with Pilu of Cabo Pulmo Diving.  There were a few other things of note:  The opening of the new Cabo Pulmo Visitor Center, and movie night at the visitor center.  Claire did do a couple of hikes.  I decided not to dive for two days.

After leaving Cabo Pulmo, we went to Cabo San Lucas.  We stayed at Tesoro in Cabo San Lucas.  It's a very nice hotel on the marina.  No free wifi though :-(

We arrived early enough to have lunch.  We ate at "Solomon's Landing" on the marina.  Another nice restaurant with a marina view.

Later, for dinner we went to Los Barriles restaurant.  We really liked this place.  It serves Italian food.  (We decided to try something different.)

The next day we went diving with Cabo Deep Blue.  Oscar and Sachiko, the owners, are great.

After diving, lunch.  Then Claire wanted to walk around the area for a bit.  This was her first time to Cabo San Lucas.

For dinner, we went to Daikoku.  It's a Japanese restaurant.  They have a good menu with a good selection of food.  They also serve large portions.  We left the place feeling very satisfied and full.

Travel day.  Private shuttle to the airport, Southwest Airlines flight, baggage claim, Lyft, home.

Things of note about this trip to Cabo Pulmo and Cabo San Lucas:

  • The road to Cabo Pulmo hasn’t improved much.  Small cars can make it (in good weather) but I still recommend at least an all wheel drive vehicle.
  • For the most part, you will not have a problem using credit cards in Cabo San Lucas.  Bring cash to Cabo Pulmo.  Dollars are accepted, but pesos are better.
  • Though internet access has not improved much in Cabo Pulmo, mobile phone service is a lot better.
  • If you're going to Cabo Pulmo, I still recommend getting there before it gets dark.
